This Faculty is home to some of the most highly-rated social science departments and research centres in the country. The Faculty, led by the Executive Dean, boasts an outstanding international research reputation, and houses eight departments, working collaboratively to produce world-leading research, delivering an exceptional standard of teaching and student experience. The Q-Step programme, which is coordinated within the Faculty, has been designed to promote step-change in quantitative social science training in the UK.

Duties of the Role

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating, organising and supporting the delivery of a range of Q-Step activities across the three affiliate departments within the Faculty; Essex Business School, the Department of Government and the Department of Sociology. Coordinating a range of Q-Step events and activities will require close liaison with a variety of different teams across the University, promoting to students and applicants the range of activities on offer, evaluating and enhancing activities, and supporting the broader team to ensure the future of Q-Step at Essex is established.

Building strong working relationships with departments and teams across the University, as well as with External stakeholders, will be a key aspect of this role to ensure that Q-Step is as successful as possible.

Qualifications and Skills required

The successful candidate will be educated to undergraduate degree level (or equivalent), or possess substantial equivalent experience.

We are looking for an individual with significant and recent administrative experience in a relevant environment coupled with experience of working independently and within a team. High level experience of using, or evidence of the ability to learn to use, bespoke databases and electronic systems, and the ability to maintain accurate records and databases is also essential.

In addition, you will possess experience of developing and organising a range of events and knowledge or experience of collating and analysing the success of events, in order to suggest and implement enhancements, and experience of designing and delivering training to a range of audiences.

You will need to have excellent communication skills, considerable personal initiative and strong interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will need to be extremely well organised with a proven ability to manage a busy and varied workload. A key skill for this role will be to build excellent working relationships with a range of staff and students, often at different levels of seniority. 

This is a permanent, part-time post for 12 hours per week.
