Location: Exeter, ENGLAND
Deadline: 13 Feb 2023

The University of Exeter is one of the world’s leading universities. A member of the Russell Group of top UK research-intensive universities, it has been placed 137th in the world according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and ranks in the top 15, in prestigious national league tables.

The University has a proud history and has grown from its roots in the South West of England to be a truly inclusive and diverse global university with a community of around 30,000 students from more than 150 countries, and 6,400 staff working across four campuses in Devon and Cornwall.  In addition, we have more than 150,000 alumni, academics and global university partners that bring the world to Exeter and take Exeter to the world.

This is an exciting time for the University. In October 2021, we launched our ambitious Strategy 2030, which aims to use our outstanding education, research and global connections to create a sustainable, healthy and socially just future. It is in this context that the University is now seeking to appoint a new Provost, to lead the delivery of this Strategy.

As an essential member of the University’s senior team, the Provost plays a major role on the University Executive Board, and acts as its Deputy Chair.  The Provost provides leadership, direction and strategic evaluation of academic matters within the University and line manages our three Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Deans. Deputising for the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive as required, the Provost also works closely with senior leaders across the University to position Exeter as a top global University.

The successful candidate will develop and lead major strategic initiatives as part of our Strategy 2030, including a vision for the size and shape of the University into the next decade, and will have the opportunity to effect significant change and advance the academic agenda for the University.

The next Provost will combine a proven track record of effective academic leadership and management with an excellent personal academic standing and an inclusive and collaborative approach that will embody our University values and allow them to build partnerships and influence, both internally and externally. They will possess experience and understanding of strategic resource management at scale and the capacity to lead cross-University strategic initiatives.

The University of Exeter is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and through this appointment process it is the University’s clearly stated aim to develop candidate pools that include applicants from all backgrounds and communities. The University particularly welcomes applications from women, people from black and minority ethnic communities, the LGBT+ community and from disabled people.
