We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Proteomics Data Scientist within our Mass Spectrometry Facility, to perform data and statistical analysis for proteomic studies using mass spectrometry data. This is a fixed- term appointment until 31 March 2029.

We seek to appoint a data scientist to assist the MRC PPU mass spectrometry facility. The selected candidate will be expected to develop and implement new data analysis and data visualization pipelines for mass spectrometry-based proteomics. The candidate must have experience in mass spectrometry data handling and statistical analysis. Experience with large cohorts and post-translational modifications is highly desirable. The appointed candidate will greatly contribute to the success of the MRC mass spectrometry facility,

The MRC-PPU Mass Spectrometry Facility has access to state-of-the-art equipment pushing the institute to the forefront of its field. This position provides an excellent and exciting opportunity to be involved in state-of-the-art proteomics analysis in world class research projects.

Your priorities will include:

  • Perform data analysis on mass spectrometry data of proteomics samples, using several search engine platforms (e.g. Dia-NN, Spectronaut, MaxQuant, Proteome Discoverer)
  • Perform statistical analysis of the data analysis results using either in-house developed scripts or your-own developed scripts (e.g. batch correction, normalisation, differential analysis, etc.)
  • Advice and/or explain to users the data analysis and statistical analysis process
  • Working collaboratively and assisting with the training of PhD students and other lab members.
  • Contributing to the preparation of research for publication.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Have a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or related discipline with outstanding academic track record and a publication record in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals.
  • Have a strong interest and background evidence in data analysis and how analyse large study cohorts
  • Be fluent in coding languages (inc. Python, R, Matlab, etc.)
  • Have a strong ability to work independently but with excellent ability to work in a team, and have an open and collaborative approach to science
