Salary: UH8 £44,263pa to £46,974pa with potential to progress to £56,021pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave: 30 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days, including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year.

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield, Hertfordshire

An exciting new full-time, permanent in-house opportunity for a property solicitor has arisen at the University of Hertfordshire. The Legal & Compliance Services team (within the Office of the Vice-Chancellor) is an innovative and service-focused in-house legal team, providing legal services to the University, its academic and professional staff, and its subsidiary companies.

Main duties and responsibilities

This post is a new role within the Legal & Compliance Services team with specific responsibility for property and estates work. The post holder will advise clients on a wide range of property and estates issues, and some commercial law matters. Reporting to one of the Senior Solicitors, this will be a key role within a close-knit team, providing advice, guidance and drafting support to a wide range of senior staff, including preparation of leases, licences, disposals and other commercial property and landlord and tenant arrangements including interaction with the Land Registry. Some experience of advancing sustainability in an estates context and of construction matters would be desirable.

Skills and experience required

You will be a qualified solicitor with substantial experience of property law requirements. You will also have experience of advising a wide range of clients on legal matters and agreements, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Innovative, resourceful, pragmatic and commercially aware, with a keen eye for detail, you will take a customer-orientated approach to service delivery and be an able problem-solver. Experience of working in the higher education sector and a knowledge of commercial contracts would be desirable. You will be a team-player with a demonstrable record of forming collaborative professional relationships at all levels. Experience of working on property transactions in a charity context would also be desirable.

Qualifications required

You should be a qualified solicitor, with an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualifications (or equivalent relevant proven experience).
