The Opportunity:

The Human Genetics Programme  is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Project Manager to support our scientific and operational projects across the Programme. The role will work collaboratively with clinician scientists, research nurses, logistics experts and researchers, both internally, nationally and across South America, to facilitate progress on patient sample acquisition, processing and analysis. Using single cell genomics technologies, patient samples will be used to identify the genetic causes of immune-mediated diseases with the ultimate goal of identifying novel therapeutic targets or biomarkers of response to current therapeutics,

About Us:

The Human Genetics Operations team supports the cutting-edge research of all Faculty groups within the Programme. By providing multidisciplinary support, we maximise the delivery and scale of our Faculty science.  Human Genetics Operations is comprised of several teams supporting the following activities; team and research administration, bioinformatics, sample processing, project management and software development.

About the Role:

You will interact closely with the Anderson , Trynka  and Davenport  teams, as well as other stakeholders from within the Programme, the wider Institute, and with our collaborators. Well-honed interpersonal skills and the ability to form and maintain strong working relationships with a diverse group of individuals is critical. You will be responsible for understanding the different funding and sample sources that contribute to each overall project and monitoring and tracking the progress of these projects against various deliverables. You will also be responsible for generating and maintaining a range of project documentation throughout the project lifecycle. Practical experience of producing and managing budgets of multiple overlapping scientific projects is advantageous.

About You:

You will be an established or aspiring project manager who has a passion for supporting scientific research. You will have an understanding of biology and/or genomics to help communicate research progress from the Programme to multiple stakeholders, including funders. You will be able to digest complex information and adapt plans accordingly, with an understanding of escalation processes and relevant regulations that govern the Programme’s research. You will have the ability to build collaborative working relationships with a range of stakeholders, and be responsible for managing your own workload. Since the role involves working with collaborators to acquire patient samples from South America, a flexible attitude to working hours will be required.

Essential Skills

Technical Skills:

  • Science degree in a relevant subject [or equivalent experience]
  • Project Management experience including familiarity of developing and maintaining key project documentation.
  • Experience of managing projects within a life sciences/academic environment
  • Experience of developing, handling and reporting budgets
  • Ability to work in a constantly changing environment and demonstrate agile working approach
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan and schedule effectively
  • Demonstrate an ability to provide, receive and record both routine and highly complex communications, electronically, orally and in writing
  • Ability to focus, concentrate and accurately complete tasks within given timeframes while dealing  with unscheduled interruptions e.g. changing priorities
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for Human samples/tissue
