We are seeking a Personal Assistant and Project Manager to join Professor Christophe Fraser’s group at The Big Data Institute.

you will co-ordinate the collaboration with the PHIA project (https://phia.icap.columbia.edu/). The PHIA Project, led by ICAP at Columbia University in partnership with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), measures the reach and impact of HIV programs in PEPFAR-supported countries through national surveys. Surveys are conducted in close partnership with ministries of health and local partners in each country. We are in negotiations with PHIA to sequence at least 6000 representative samples across the countries surveyed. This will allow us to get geographically dispersed background samples which are important for our studies involving movement and migration of HIV across Africa. You will arrange the exchange of Material Transfer Agreements, assist with setting up the shipment of samples, and keep partners informed of progress and developments. Given the many partners involved, good communication is needed to ensure everybody stays informed throughout the project.

You will also provide administrative support and liaise with grants, HR and research services. This will involve independently monitoring emails and diaries and working on your own initiative to make travel arrangements, coordinating itineraries, work out travel claims and arranging travel visas. You will also organise meetings, conference calls and conferences. Given this you must be experienced in working to tight and changing deadlines. You will also work closely with other members of the admin and research teams within BDI.

It is essential that you are educated to degree level with excellent communications and interpersonal skills. Knowledge and experience of managing an office with senior members of staff alongside diary management. You will need computer skills including: email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the internet, with an ability to deal with changing office technologies.
