The post
The University of Exeter Medical School wishes to recruit a Research Project Manager to assist in the running of an exciting new collaborative translational genomics initiative (PARADIGM). This 5-year Wellcome-funded post is available from 1 March 2023. The successful applicant will be responsible for day-to-day management of the initiative, led by Professor Caroline Wright at the University of Exeter, which involves multiple research teams across the UK.
About the project
Despite progress in genome sequencing, the majority of patients affected by rare diseases remain undiagnosed. The PARADIGM initiative will tackle this problem by creating new Primary Annotated Resources to Advance Discovery In Genomic Medicine. PARADIGM is a collaboration between researchers at the Universities of Exeter, Edinburgh, Imperial, and Cambridge as well as the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) and Wellcome Sanger Institute. By combining machine learning approaches with functional genomics data and genome sequences from patients (including the Deciphering Developmental Disorders Study and Genomics England datasets), we aim to find novel genetic causes of disease. This post forms a core part of PARADIGM, and responsibilities will include:
· Organisation of regular hybrid meetings and annual in-person retreats
· Creation and maintenance of a dedicated project website
· Coordination of gene-disease curation activities across multiple different centres
· Grant management activities
About you
Applicants will possess a degree or equivalent qualification/experience. The successful applicant will be organised and efficient, with excellent communication and team working skills. A demonstrable track record of successful research project management, knowledge of biomedical science, and experience working with academics would be highly beneficial. Depending upon the applicant, it might also be possible to get involved in the research or curation activities of the initiative.
