Location: Birmingham, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 30 May 2022

Fixed-term until 30 June 2023

University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK

This post will be part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

DEMAND Hub will provide business support and access to 1048 sq. m of refurbished innovation facilities and expertise for ISO-accredited characterisation of devices in terms of safety and usability.   It will remove a regulatory blockage to the development of the local life science economy by providing a set of facilities that we have identified to be absent in the region and bring a new focus around the utility of healthcare data, including patient-reported outcomes, in guiding product development.

The project will accelerate the translation of novel innovations in the laboratory through to the clinic and commercial exploitation.  In doing so, it will aid in the development of existing markets and stimulate new ones for Life Sciences’ SMEs, enabling them to bring products to market quickly, at less cost with reduced risk.

As Manager for the project, you  will be responsible for day-to-day operational management of the project and the successful delivery of contracted outputs. The task will necessitate co-ordinating and managing the efforts of staff involved in all aspects of project delivery. Furthermore, you will co-ordinate the efforts of the project partner organisation, University Hospital Birmingham, and the numerous SMEs, who are the project beneficiaries.

You will be responsible for ensuring that all ERDF requirements for reporting and auditing are met for the duration of the project and will also be responsible to the Project Director for reporting progress on the projects, and for alerting senior management to any major potential threats to project delivery. You will be required to ensure that all aspects of project delivery are completed in line with University policies. At times you may also be required to advise on Project Management and ERDF regulations to other appropriate School funded projects.

You will be responsible for identifying appropriate opportunities for new business that emerge during the delivery of the project. Such opportunities will need to be reported to the relevant College Research and Knowledge Transfer team or to Research and Innovation Services.
