An exciting opportunity has arisen for the active management of a well-positioned and mature pan-European research project that seeks to develop scientific tools that will help control and eliminate the prevalence of microplastics in our environment. The Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AiPT) at Aston University is therefore seeking to appoint a part-time (0.7FTE) Project Manager to assume key project management responsibilities for the European Initial Training Network project ‘MONPLAS’ (1 position; 0.7 FTE). The project (www.monplas.eu ), with 8 beneficiaries and 10 partners across several European countries, is funded by the EC Horizon 2020 programme. The appointment is funded until at least 29/02/24 and applicants should be available to start their new role on 3rd  January 2022 or sooner if possible.

The post holder will be expected to take leadership in project coordination, management and contractual obligations, providing top-level project management services to ‘MONPLAS’, to ensure that objectives, timescales and anticipated milestones and deliverables are met, and that the overall budget is effectively monitored and adhered to. Reporting to the  MONPLAS Project Coordinator (Dr Daniel Hill) she or he will support in assisting the project beneficiaries and partners; maintaining the project records, website, and social media; reporting to the funder; and organising training workshops, meetings and other events until project closure. The post will require some international travel (subject to COVID19 restrictions).

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to consolidate their career in project management through committing themselves to new challenges. In doing so she/he will become a member of a very experienced and supportive EC project management team at AiPT, with a long-standing track-record of successful implementation of EC-funded collaborative research projects and training networks. Beyond their immediate project responsibilities they may take on occasional others, such as contributing to the writing of new funding applications for further projects.

He/she should have a University degree, experience in managing projects, supporting large complex projects and budget management. Furthermore, candidates should have outstanding organisational skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities, well-developed interpersonal and team-working skills and be both pro-active and have a strong aptitude for leadership.
