Project Co-Lead, University Networks

Internationalisation has long presented a strategic priority for the University of Vienna across research, education, and its service missions. Following on from increased internationalisation efforts, and central to the university’s ambitious internationalisation agenda, a key priority is the institution’s embedding in strategic partnerships across Europe.

To support these activities, the University of Vienna is now looking to appoint a pro-active individual with a global mindset in the role of Project Co-Lead, University Networks, to drive the university’s planned engagement with a prestigious University network and, as required, manage the coordination of engagement with other university networks.

The offer from the University of Vienna is a full-time appointment as Project Co-Lead, University Networks starting as soon as possible.

Role

In close coordination with the Head of the International Office and the Rectorate, a strong and immediate focus in tasks will be aimed at embedding the University of Vienna in the European university network the University is going to join. This is to be considered part of the bigger ambition to further anchor the University of Vienna in the European teaching and research landscape and design its implementation operationally. This requires intensive internal and external communication and advocacy, the exchange with stakeholders from all disciplines concerning the development of innovative formats of teaching and interaction, diverse coordination and organisational tasks as well as participation in inter-university working groups. Additionally, the appointee will be asked to negotiate and collaborate with colleagues at partner universities across the network, including their executive leadership teams. Moreover, there is a requirement to oversee the agendas of the regional university network CENTRAL and the European network of research-intensive universities, The Guild.

Key Characteristics

Considering the above responsibilities, the candidate must be pro-active and driven, with the necessary credibility to engage with the academic community internally and externally, as well as with the international education, research and innovation ecosystem. Moreover, the ideal candidate will have the following skills and expertise:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Fluent German and English, and preferably one other European language
  • Extensive international experience
  • In-depth understanding of the inner workings of complex research or higher education environment
  • Experience in preparing European documentation, including: proposals, whitepapers, and strategy and policy pieces
  • Multistakeholder management
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong negotiation and advocacy skills
  • Willingness to travel within the EU

The University is offering an attractive 14-month salary in line with the Collective Labour Agreement of c. €3.3k gross/month; with some room for negotiation depending on qualifications and experience.
