About the role
We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a Project Archivist to join the Archives and Modern Manuscripts team at the Bodleian Libraries.
This role will support metadata creation and management activities associated with cataloguing and digitisation of archives and manuscripts being undertaken at the Bodleian Libraries. You will be critical to ensuring that metadata generated meets the Bodleian Libraries’ metadata guidelines, optimising its potential for supporting discovery, use and management of collections.
You will achieve this through transforming metadata from unstructured forms into Bodleian-approved forms, supporting colleagues working on cataloguing collection materials, quality assurance in relation to relevant metadata, and taking responsibility for publication and updating of relevant metadata in internal systems and in our public-facing catalogue, Bodleian Archives & Manuscripts.
Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service check due to work involving handling highly valuable items.
The role requires lifting, carrying and moving collection material and library records, by hand and using trolleys, kickstools and lifts.
This is a full-time, fixed-term post for 11 months, working 37.5 hours per week.
About you
You will be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience
Your communications skills will be strong, and you will be adept at communicating complex ideas in simple language.
A high degree of technical literacy, with practical experience and advanced skills in working with metadata manipulation in various forms including spreadsheets and XM is also essential.
You will possess good time and project management skills
Possession of a postgraduate qualification in archives administration, digital curation or similar is desirable
