Programme Leader (BA(Hons) Design for Social Futures)

Design is a key cultural and social engine to propel the future of economies and engage with emerging communities in societies. The Faculty of Design at LASALLE, a leader in design education in Southeast Asia, propositions a curriculum focused on the needs of tomorrow. The Faculty trains highly skilled (digital, aesthetic, technical) graduates as creative disruptors, out-of-the-box thinking practitioners and enterprising designers for a new world.

The Faculty of Design is launching an exciting new programme to meet the needs of both Singapore and global creative sectors.

We are looking for a dynamic design and educational leader to lead the BA(Hons) Design for Social Futures programme, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. With a targeted first intake in 2024, subject to statutory approvals, the programme aims to be a platform to enable emerging designers to locate their own causes, giving voice to their approach to designing their social and creative futures.

Located in the School of Spatial and Product Design, the programme will cover design areas of service design, user interface and user-experience design, information and data, social design, transformative systems, digital content and narrative design and environments. The programme will focus on creative leadership, global trend forecasting, breaking existing systems and codes and addressing how design can be a meaningful trigger for emerging environments and influence design systems and launch dynamic new approaches to design.

The Programme Leader will be responsible for the programme’s strategic and operational matters. Key responsibilities will include curriculum development, planning and coordination of classes, and managing students’ projects and exhibitions. You will also manage the programme efficiently within the allotted resources and budget, which includes the selection and management of part-time staff and a range of visiting artists. The role requires the successful candidate to undertake some teaching in the programme while actively furthering staff professional development, practice and research.

Individuals with an established professional practice and research profile in the above design areas are welcome to apply.
