School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences (SRES)
The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences was created in August 2017 bringing together sport and exercise sciences, physiotherapy, sports therapy and related activity. This presents exciting opportunities for new interdisciplinary collaborations and partnership working with external agencies including a range of health practitioners.

The University of Essex has expanded its facilities for sports performance, research and education with the opening of a new facility in January 2018. As part of this development, the School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences is investing significantly in new research and teaching provision.

The School is now seeking to appoint a Professor in any area of Sport and Exercise Sciences

Duties of the Role

The post holder will contribute to the delivery of learning and teaching within the School, through the establishment of an internationally excellent research programme, the publication of high-quality research papers and the development of innovative teaching methods. You will supervise postgraduate research students and carry out such teaching and administration duties as requested by the Head of School.

Duties will include pursuing research that is world leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour, in keeping with the REF criteria; enhancing the scholarly reputation of the school; and providing research leadership in securing, in collaboration with colleagues as appropriate, external funding through research grants or contracts to support a well-developed and high-profile research agenda.

A full list of duties and responsibilities can be found within the job pack.

Qualifications and Skills required

The successful candidate will possess a relevant doctoral-level research degree or equivalent professional experience or practice and have a distinguished academic record, including internationally excellent research and success in securing and managing substantial research grants. In addition, evidence of teaching excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels appropriate to the discipline and a sustained record of strategic leadership in academic practice and academic development are essential.

Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to provide academic leadership in a range of appropriate contexts are essential for this post.

Appointment will made as Professor (R), on a Teaching and Research (ASER) contract.
