The School of Chemistry at the University of Southampton welcomes applications for the position of Professor or Associate Professor in Magnetic Resonance. The successful candidate will strengthen our thriving research expertise and culture within the triple helix strategy of the University, which seeks to achieve cross-fertilisation between research, education and enterprise activity. The University of Southampton is in the top 1% of world universities and is one of the UK’s top 15 research-intensive universities.

Magnetic Resonance is composed of groups from three faculties. Five PIs with multiple UK and international grants are in Chemistry, with others from Biological Sciences and Medicine, and a dedicated research engineer. We operate a large research facility with eight high-field NMR instruments, EPR and various low-field and benchtop systems. Instrumentation for solution and solid-state NMR includes specialist (sometimes world-unique) capabilities, often with significant home-built or customised components for small scale MRI and cryogenic, field-cycling, microfluidic, parahydrogen-enhanced, metabolomic, supercritical fluid, high temperature and high-pressure NMR.

About the role

We seek candidates with a strong, internationally recognised profile in a topical area within Magnetic Resonance. You will undertake internationally recognised research, and work to attract significant research funding. You will contribute to the School of Chemistry in a leadership, research, enterprise and educational capacity. Education contributions may be within our Chemistry or Chemical Engineering programmes .
