Professor of Physical Chemistry

We are recruiting a Professor in Physical Chemistry with the expectation that the successful candidate will commence their employment from Autumn 2023. 

We seek an individual who can demonstrate that they are, or could be, a recognised international leader in the very widest sense of the field of experimental physical chemistry (including, but not limited to, spectroscopy, diffractometry, solid state, surface science, biological systems, physical organic chemistry) with intellectual vision, a commensurate publication track record and proven ability to secure substantive research funding. Ideally you should also demonstrate potential for the wider impact of your research through knowledge exchange activities including patents, commercialisation or significant public engagement and policy setting 

The successful candidate is expected to; play a key role shaping our research and training aligned with the University’s overarching research strategy; contribute to the excellent outputs of our four Research Themes (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/chemistry/research/index.aspx ); demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence; bring experience in mentorship and coaching of academic colleagues 

The School of Chemistry is home to a lively research community of over 160 PhD students and 70 postdoctoral researchers, and one of the largest and strongest Theoretical and Computational Chemistry groups in the UK. We are located in the main Chemistry Building and Bio-Discovery Institute on University Park, and the world-leading GSK Carbon Neutral Laboratories on the Jubilee Campus. We have state of the art research facilities, which include high field (800/600 MHz) solution and solid-state NMR spectrometers, an extensive suite of XRD instrumentation, EPR, SQUID magnetometry and multiple types of mass spectrometer. Access to the cross-disciplinary Nanoscale and Microscale Research Centre offers further facilities for imaging and surface analysis. We also have strong links to research groups in the Schools of Physics & Astronomy, Pharmacy, Biosciences, Life Sciences, the Medical School, and the Faculty of Engineering.

The role is available on a permanent contract. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours) ; however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week).
