This is an exciting opportunity to join the Management and Marketing Group at Essex Business School in the field of Management. The group already has more than 20 research active members, consisting of emerging as well as world-leading researchers with an international reputation for cutting-edge research and teaching in the fields of management, alternative economics and organising, sustainability, strategy, brand management, critical management & marketing and consumer behaviour.

We are keen to appoint a talented and world-leading scholar with experience in any area of Management, appointing at the level of Professor. We would, however, especially welcome applications from those with expertise in:

  • Management and innovation
  • Alternative economies and organisations
  • Critical management studies
  • International business and global management
  • Equality, diversity, inclusion and respect, especially in organisations operating in the international context
  • Management and coloniality
  • Histories of management
  • Any area aligned to research interests in the management and marketing group

Duties of the Role

The purpose of this post is to enhance the school’s research profile and to both contribute to and lead in developing the field of Management at the school; to develop and actively engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision; and to extend the school’s profile regionally, nationally and internationally through collaboration with other institutions.

Key responsibilities will include providing strategic leadership in education, pursuing research that is world leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour, providing research leadership, and generating substantial research income commensurate with subject area norms.

Qualifications and Skills required

Applicants should hold a relevant doctoral-level research degree or equivalent professional experience or practice.

The successful candidate will have a distinguished academic record, including internationally excellent research, success in securing and managing substantial research grants and will have a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes.

The post-holder will have evidence of teaching excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and possess the ability complement, strengthen and help direct the department/school’s research and education activities. Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

This is a permanent, full-time post on an ASER (teaching and research) contract and appointment will be made as Professor (R). The projected start date for this post is 1 August 2022.
