The University of Surrey is one of the UK’s leading public research universities. We are looking to recruit an exceptional candidate as a professor who will join the Department of Psychological Interventions

The Department sits within the School of Psychology and is committed to generating new theoretical understandings to support the development of new emotional wellbeing and mental health interventions across the life span. To support our research agenda, we have two research groups Applied Clinical and Health Psychology and Social Justice and Health Inequalities. Experts by Experience are integral to our work with communities and individuals who experience both physical and mental health related distress.

Our department is committed to partnership working with our local, national, and global communities, and trains Clinical Psychologists and Practitioners to work within the Increasing Access to Talking Therapies services. As such we have strong links with the NHS, British Psychological Society, the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy and the Association of Family Therapy. These organisations evolving agenda provide a further stimulus to enhance the work on developing interventions for those from diverse communities. The requirements of the teaching programme afford us opportunities to work with clinical experts to identify real world research questions.

We also have close working relationships with colleagues within the wider Schools who have a range of interests which are encapsulated with several research groups; Brain and Behaviour, Cognitive Psychology, Develop, Education and Outreach, Environmental Psychology, Health Psychology, Food Consumer Behaviour and Health, Social Emotion and Equality in Relations and Surrey Baby Lab. These groups with a variety of commerce, industry and health and social care partnerships providing an expansive range of networks.

Our Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences comprises four schools, working together under ‘One Health’ vision, embracing the broader themes of healthy aging, and supporting long-term conditions, understanding people’s relationships with social and physical environments, urban living, sustainability, and people-focused AI.

Currently the University has 2,500 academic staff and 17,000 students which provides for an inspiring and diverse environment to make a positive impact through having an inquiring spirit that is inclusive and embraces connectivity at work.

We are looking to recruit an exceptional candidate, as indicated by publications, grants, knowledge exchange/impact, who will complement and/or diversify the current team who has a vision on how to identify, develop and deliver interventions. Working in public health, community psychology or psychiatry, having a track record in using new technologies, digital approaches or Artificial Intelligence would be an advantage.

As a collegial Department, this post would offer an opportunity to join a team of energetic colleagues who are committed to delivering innovative research. We are seeking an individual who will provide research leadership to further the ambitions of the Department to achieve its research potential. Key responsibilities will be to develop and lead big and strategic bids, mentor early- and mid-career researchers to become independent and make a significant contribution to the supervision of the clinical doctorate trainees alongside some doctoral level teaching.

You will have a track record of high-quality research in an area of Psychology, Psychiatry, or applied practice in mental health, along with the academic standing and strategic vision to take forward new directions for our discipline.
