The role

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Exeter is seeking a new Professor to join our Biomedical Physics Group. We would like to appoint a Professor with a particular interest in the areas of NanoBiophotonics or NanoBioengineering developing novel techniques in the fields of Biomedical Nanomachines, Nanosensing or Nanotherapeutics.

The successful candidate will lead and co-ordinate research activity in one or more of the following: Biomedical Nanophotonics / NanoEngineering / Nanomachines / Nanosensing / Nanotherapeutics.

They will also participate in the leadership, development, and delivery of high-quality, research-led, taught programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. 

We would expect the appointed candidate to lead research in complementary areas to our EPSRC funded Raman Nanotheranostics Programme (EP/R020965/1 ) and advanced imaging CONTRAST facility (EP/S009957/1 ); helping to grow our critical mass and leadership in developing and applying novel Biophotonic and NanoBiophotonic techniques to biology and medicine.

Raman Nanotheranostics seeks to become a platform healthcare technology of the future. It will combine novel biocompatible nanoparticles for targeting abnormal cells, provide specific optical signals at depths of many cm, enable targeted therapeutics with combined temperature and response monitoring. We seek to attract candidates who can provide complementary skills and techniques able to develop new avenues of exploration with or complementary to this approach.

The Biophysics/Biomedical Physics Group in Exeter has an internationally leading portfolio of Biophotonics and Biospectroscopy research. It involves both the development of novel instrumentation and exploiting it to explore key biomedical questions; potentially developing and testing solutions for clinical needs. We work closely with teams in the Living Systems Institute and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.
