Overview

About the Role

This role is part of a £3.2M investment by Barts Charity to develop genomic and epigenomic liquid biopsy analyses for diagnostics as well as research applications across QMUL. The post holder will play a leading role in establishing the required infrastructure and delivering a pilot project focused on the prediction of pregnancy outcomes in the local population. They will foster and coordinate links between a newly established QMUL Centre for Epigenetics, computational scientists at the Digital Environment Research Institute (DERI), the Faculty’s Genome Centre core facility, clinicians and patients, as well as clinical and basic science researchers across the University. The Professor will also drive their own research portfolio, deliver high quality teaching which enhances student experience, as well as contribute as a senior academic to the wider achievements of the university.

About You

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Genetics, Epigenomics, Molecular Pathology, or equivalent. A significant track-record of high-quality research in the liquid biopsy field, a clear and ambitious plan for future research, and significant experience in bidding for and securing external research funding are essential. The ideal candidate will also have evidence of coordinating multi-team research efforts, for example as part of national or international consortia. Candidates will need the ability to develop and deliver research-led teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as experience managing research staff and PhD students.

About the Institute

The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. The Institute comprises approximately 350 staff based in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.
