About the position

At the Department of Circulation and Medical Imaging (ISB) we have a vacancy for a permanent full time (100 %) position as a professor/associate professor in medicine (MR Technology).

The Department is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and includes the following subject areas: Radiology, Biomedical Technology and Medical Imaging, Exercise Physiology and Sport Sciences, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Cardiology and Pulmonary Medicine and Anaesthesiology.

The Department is also responsible for hosting the MR Core Facility , the MR Centre  and the Centre of Innovative Ultrasound Solutions (CIUS) . ISB collaborates with several Research and Development units at St. Olavs hospital.

Together with the Department’s other academic staff, the appointee will be responsible for teaching, supervision of students, research, infrastructure, and academic development within the relevant disciplines according to one’s competencies.

Duties of the position

  • The position includes the responsibility for teaching within the bachelor's programme in radiography and the master’s degree in medical imaging technology (e.g., Basic MR and X-ray physics, General pathology, Radiation biology, Oncology). There will also be supervision of bachelor and master’s students. The appointee will contribute to ISB's research activity including doctoral degree supervision and teaching PhD courses.
  • The relevant research fields are MR of Cancer and/or MR metabolomics
  • The appointee will have scientific responsibility of the MR Core Facility and will further contribute to the scientific and strategic development of infrastructure and enable research of high international quality.
  • The appointee is expected to develop collaborative projects internationally, nationally, and internally at NTNU and St Olavs hospital, as well as with the health service and industry in general.
  • The appointee must contribute actively and independently to applications for external research funding from national and international sources.
  • The appointee is expected to teach within their relevant expertise across all study programmes at the Faculty.
  • The position also includes administrative duties.

Required qualifications 

You must have the qualifications required for the position of Professor in the field of medicine, as outlined in § 1-2 of the regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts 

  • The applicants must have relevant professional health education at master's level or hold a master's degree in a relevant field of research within science and technology.
  • The applicants are required to hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field of research (MR of Cancer/MR metabolomics).
  • The appointee must be able to document extensive professional qualifications and scientific competence within one or more of the relevant research fields listed above.
  • Quality and breadth of former scientific work will be assessed, and the applicants must enclose a 5-year research plan for the position.
  • The applicants must have experience with securing research funding from national and/or international sources.
  • The appointee must be fluent in written and oral Scandinavian and English languages.
  • In addition to the requirements for basic educational competence, you must also document: 
    • The development of the quality of your own teaching and supervision of students over time 
    • Broad experience as a supervisor, preferably at a master’s/PhD level 
    • Participation in improving the quality of education in a professional environment 

For appointment as a professor, an academic level conforming to established national standards  is required.

Associate professor: 

You must have the qualifications required for the position of Associate Professor in the field of medicine, as outlined in the regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts 

  • The applicants must have relevant professional health education at master's level or hold a master's degree in a relevant field of research within science and technology.
  • The applicants are required to hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field of research (MR of Cancer/MR metabolomics).
  • The appointee must be able to document extensive professional qualifications and scientific competence within one or more of the relevant research fields listed above.
  • Quality and breadth of former scientific work will be assessed, and the applicants must enclose a 5-year research plan for the position.

Applicable to all:  

You must document relevant basic competence in teaching and supervision at a university/higher education-level, as referenced in the Norwegian national Regulations . If this cannot be documented, you will be required to complete an approved course in university pedagogy within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses.

It is of the highest importance that the applicant has good motivation for, and documented ability for, interdisciplinary cooperation. The extent of this is emphasized and evaluated on the ability to initiate and lead research and teaching activities, as well as supervision at PhD level. Emphasis will also be placed on personal suitability.

This is an important part of the social mission, and it is desirable that the applicant documents experience in research communication beyond publication in international journals.

Salary and conditions

As a Associate Professor / Professor (code 1011 /1013 ) you are normally paid from gross 593 500 – 935 300NOK per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. As required by law, 2% of this salary will be deducted and paid into the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants,  and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.   

After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work. 

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.

Joint work will also be considered. If it is difficult to identify your specific input to a joint project, you must include evidence of your contributions.

In the evaluation of which candidate is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education, experience and personal and interpersonal qualities. Motivation, ambitions, and potential will also count in the assessment of the candidates. Our assessment of the pedagogical skills will be based on documented pedagogical material, forms of presentation in your academic works, teaching experience, PhD, and Masters supervision, and any other relevant pedagogical background. Both quality and scope will be taken into consideration.

This means that we will pay particular attention to the quality and academic range demonstrated by your scientific work to date. We will also pay attention to research leadership and participation in research projects. Your scientific work from the last five years will be given the most weight.
