DEPARTMENT OF LAND SURVEYING AND GEO-INFORMATICS

Professor / Associate Professor in Land Surveying / Geospatial Technologies (two posts)

The Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI) is widely considered as a centre of excellence in both education and research in Geomatics and related fields. The Department offers a range of academic programmes to both local and overseas students, including Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics and in Spatial Data Science and Smart Cities, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Geomatics and in Urban Informatics and Smart Cities. LSGI has a very strong research programme that encompasses research activities in the areas of urban informatics, spatial big data analytics, geographical information science, satellite positioning, ubiquitous positioning, photogrammetry and remote sensing, geodesy and geodynamics, environmental monitoring, geo-hazards studies, Artificial Intelligence, smart city, utility system management, location-based services, near-surface geophysical survey, and geographical and social science applications. There are currently 26 academic staff, 12 supporting members, over 50 research staff and PhD students in the Department. The total student number is over 500. The Department is seeking highly motivated and suitably qualified individuals with extensive research expertise in Land Surveying / Geospatial Technologies.

Duties

The appointees will be required to:

a) conduct research in related areas and contribute to the development of the Department’s strategic research area of urban informatics, and its research directions in Spatial Big Data Modelling and Analytics, Smart Positioning and Mobility, and Urban Sensing and Measurement; expertise in the development of geodesy and surveying, GNSS, deformation monitoring technologies will be advantageous;

b) initiate, lead and participate in scholarly research in his/her area of expertise and be active in research leading to quality journal publications and in bidding for external research grants and projects;

c) be responsible for developing externally-funded research programme and by supervising / coaching students at the bachelor / master / PhD level;

d) contribute to the success of the institute by initiating new internal and external collaborations and proactive participation;  

e) undertake teaching duties in relevant subject areas at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;  

f) participate in programme / curriculum planning, development and administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes;  

g) undertake relevant administrative duties; and  

h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

a) have a doctoral degree in a relevant area;

b) have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and advising;  

c) have a proven track record in research and academic achievements;  

d) possess effective classroom teaching skills and good interpersonal skills;  

e) have experience in acquiring external research funding including national, international funding bodies and industries; and

f) have excellent communication, organization, leadership, and strong cooperation skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. An appropriate term will be provided for appointment at Associate Professor and Professor levels.
