At the forefront of transformative dialogue on race and social justice, the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre (SLRC) at DeMontfort University (DMU) invites you to be a driving force in shaping a future of inclusive research and impactful change. Honouring Stephen Lawrence's legacy and guided by Baroness Doreen Lawrence's archival materials, our mission is to emerge as a global hub for ground-breaking research, fostering inclusive, intergenerational communities.

Faculty / Directorate

Collaborating on Histories and cultures of Black, Asian, and racially minoritised peoples in the UK, the concept and practice of institutional racism, denials of justice, and the social psychology of racial violence, the SLRC proudly stands as a beacon of collaborative research.

Role

As Director, you will provide strategic leadership for SLRC, managing its dedicated team and fostering interdisciplinary research. The Research Theme, 'Empowering Futures,' aligns with our Empowering University Strategy's 'Equality for All.' Peace, equality, and social justice drive this research, manifested in our Race Equality Charter Silver award. This theme encompasses decolonisation, health and geographical inequalities, migration, and modern slavery. Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership: Guide SLRC with vision, contributing to academic activities aligned with SLRC, Faculty, and University goals.

Research Theme Director: Lead and enhance research activities within the 'Empowering Futures' theme, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.

Research and Research Management: Develop research excellence within SLRC, attracting external grants and prioritizing REF outputs.

Inclusivity and Sustainable Development: Contribute to SLRC's commercial activities, aligning with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Actively engage in the University Race Equity action plan.

This role offers attractive benefits and the salary range for this role is £73, 354 to £124,231, commensurate with a Professorial role. Appointment within this range will depend upon the professorial standing of the applicant. We welcome applications from aspiring Professors seeking conferment of a Personal Chair, who meet our criteria.

Ideal Candidate

You should hold a relevant first degree and a completed PhD or equivalent in race and social justice. Demonstrating exceptional achievement in research and scholarship, you must exhibit international recognition, membership in professional associations, and evidence of peer esteem. With extensive expertise in race and social justice, including leadership roles in Higher Education Institutions, you should showcase success in income generation, PhD supervision, and industry connections. A proven track record of influencing public policy and service, along with the ability to develop new research areas and work as an empathetic leader, sets the stage for an ideal candidate.
