What we’re all about – Digital Team

We are the UoE Digital Team, and we are delivering one of the boldest digital transformations in the higher education sector. Our vision is ambitious – we want to re-invent the higher education destination making it more accessible than ever before. With Ash Roots as our Chief Digital Officer we are building a revolutionary digital team. Rich in diversity and expertise we will help the University realise its true potential.  We work in an agile way and have organised the team into chapters (groups of people with the same skill sets) and squads (made up of people from the chapters who can work autonomously and to their own goals). We want to test and champion new working models in our squads that push the boundaries of inclusivity, location, and flexibility. Our users will be at the heart of everything we do, and we’ll develop new ways to deliver value, make things easier and generate new income along the way.

Our Product Chapter…

The Product chapter enables the University to achieve the right outcomes targeted at improving the user experience and increasing revenue by:

  • Maintains ownership of products (typically a digital service fulfilling customer’s needs)
  • Understands the needs of stakeholders and translates these into strategies and tasks
  • Defines the vision, development priorities and roadmap for products.

What you’ll be doing…

As the Product Chapter Lead, you will be creative, visionary and have a passion for technology. You’ll play a key role in shaping our future Product strategy and roadmap and ensure that this is aligned to both the university’s 2030 and our own Digital strategies.

You’ll be an experienced Product owner and you’ll spend your time split between developing and coaching people in the Product chapter and acting as a product owner for strategic products. It will be your responsibility to create a team culture where people are empowered to be autonomous, take risks, and push the boundaries.

As we’re still evolving, you will be helping shape the role and the team, you’ll be getting involved in:

  • Contributing to the overall digital strategy
  • Ensuring there is a chapter strategy and focus on creating strong operational delivery
  • Mentoring and coaching team members and lead on skills development and recruitment
  • Deliver business value and problem solve with your colleagues
  • Financial planning, contribute to the Digital Function financial plan and manage budgets.
  • Working as part of a wider team to create a strategic framework, resource plan, and the technical/product roadmap.

We’re really looking for…

  • Someone who is fired up to join our brand-new digital team and help us carve out our new digital capability from scratch!
  • Someone who is not afraid to bring new ideas to table and who wants to make a massive positive impact on the future of education
  • We have a small but mighty team right now and we’re proud of how the team is shaping up – so we want someone who is positive and genuinely enjoys working together to solve problems!
  • Ability to break down barriers and build lasting relationships
  • An eye for detail, a nous for problem solving and a flair for creating a slick interface.
  • Implementing ways of working that enable development, experimentation and delivery of products that meet users’ needs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a high growth environment, fast paced activity, ability to prioritise and juggle multiple tasks at any one time
  • Resilient mindset, courage, confidence, and ambitious nature
  • Experience working in an agile/scrum development process.
