An opportunity to support the transformation of assessment practice at the University of Southampton

About Us and the Role

The Centre for Higher Education Practice (CHEP) provides support for academic staff at the University of Southampton. The Centre is located with Southampton’s Faculty of Social Sciences but serves the whole University, providing comprehensive world-leading professional development for staff and doctoral researchers at all stages of their career development. We are among the few institutions in which the support for all academic activity (Education, Research and Knowledge Exchange & Enterprise (KEE)) is provided from the same central team and play a pivotal role in supporting the realization of the University of Southampton’s Strategy .

The University is about to embark on a new multi-year Strategic Major Project (SMP) on assessment that aims to transform assessment thinking and practice across the institution. The project will build upon existing effective assessment practices and provide a range of enhancement activity through professional development and the creation of guidance and resources to support good assessment design and delivery. CHEP will be providing extensive support for this SMP in partnership with key stakeholders, staff and students.

Applications are invited for the role of Principal Teaching Fellow to manage a team of assessment practitioners to deliver academic enhancements and professional development as part of the education team within CHEP. The purpose of this role is to play a leading role in supporting the development of assessment expertise and literacy in our community. The role will undertake leadership, management and engagement activities in support of the assessment SMP, and institution-wide enhancement initiatives focused on assessment and feedback aligned to CHEP objectives and the University Strategy.

About You

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator to join our friendly and supportive team and use their knowledge and expertise in assessment practice to help expand and enhance provision for staff across the institution and contribute to academic professional development as part of high-profile strategic project.
