Internal Candidates Only
The Hannon laboratory at the CRUK Cambridge Institute (part of the University of Cambridge) is looking to recruit a talented and dedicated Principal Scientific Associate to join their research group. The team includes a mixture of wet- and dry-lab researchers focused on chromatin biology and RNA silencing mechanisms, and together, they aim to uncover the molecular mechanisms of the piRNA pathway. This multidisciplinary research, covers a wide range of areas, including transcription, export, and processing of non-coding RNAs, establishment and dynamics of chromatin marks, and ultimately repression of transposable element.
We are looking for a senior scientist with a desire to drive forward our research programme and work as part of a supportive and diverse team. The successful candidate will be collaborative, support the lab and bring their original contribution to the research programme and undertake independent research at the interface of transposon biology, chromatin silencing and small RNA pathways. The ideal candidate will contribute their expertise to the project but will also be able to learn new approaches and expand into new biological topics. The role comes with responsibilities of supporting the teams' research activities by contributing to the training and supervision of less experienced group members, as well as aspects of project and laboratory management activities.
The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in a relevant discipline and gained considerable research experience at postdoctoral level as well as a strong track record of publications. The role is best suited to candidates with the ability to work with Drosophila models as well as training and expertise in molecular biology, genetics, image analysis and proteomics. Prior work experience with project management and mouse genetics is essential.
We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
Please send applications in the following format: a CV, including your research skills and publication record; the names and contact details of two academic referees; a cover letter explaining why you wish to be considered for this role and what you will bring to the project.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
