You will join our creative and innovative team at the University of Southampton's IT Innovation Centre working to advance methods, tools and technologies for helping ensure the safety, security and trustworthiness of digital twins in healthcare, manufacturing, environment sciences and beyond. 

Your experience will contribute to our research programme pioneering approaches to risk management of cyber-physical systems considering emerging governance and AI paradigms, distributed computing infrastructures and physical environments.

You will be responsible for working with regulators, industry and citizens to understand future systems and advance modelling and simulation methods and applications. Your work will contribute to the future of a knowledge-based risk simulation toolkit named Spyderisk (https://doi.org/10.36227/techrxiv.24061590.v1), which has been developed at the University of Southampton over a 10-year period. 

There is considerable potential for developing your expertise and career, e.g. participation in open source communities, partnerships with public sector (e.g. NHS) and industry, pursuit of new ideas, projects and publications, leading to a Principal Enterprise Fellow positions and beyond.  

To be successful it is essential you have the following:

  • PhD or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience in computer science, software engineering or a related discipline (e.g. physics or maths).
  • Significant experience of systems information modelling and / or simulation.
  • Well-established national and international reputation in systems modelling with demonstrable examples creating positive change and impacts to business and society.
  • Track record of income generation.

The following would be advantageous.

  • PhD in Information Modelling or Systems Simulation  
  • Knowledge of risk assessment / management (e.g., ISO 27000 series)
  • Experience of in requirements engineering and/or codesign and coproduction
