We are looking for a talented Principal Cloud Engineer to provide technical leadership to an exciting new initiative to develop the UK Regional Centre (UKSRC) for the Square Kilometre Array, the world's largest radio telescope.

The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic team developing advanced High Performance Computing (HPC) solutions and shared cloud platform technologies and will provide cloud systems leadership to all UKSRC sites.

You'll be responsible for leading a team of cloud engineers to develop cloud infrastructure and science platforms for the UKSRC, working in collaboration with National and International colleagues to design, deliver, operate and support cloud infrastructure and HPC resources.

Responsibilities:

*Lead the design, development, and maintenance of our OpenStack-based cloud infrastructure.

*Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of OpenStack components.

*Collaborate with other UKSRC and international teams to design, deliver and support the UKSRC technical programme.

*Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to propose innovative solutions and continuously improve our cloud infrastructure.

*Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.

*Implement and enhance DevOps practices in automation, deployment and monitoring.

*Collaborate with Architecture leads to ensure that solutions align to UK and international design templates.

Qualifications and experience:

*A Masters or PhD degree or relevant experience in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.

*Extensive experience of creating, installing and managing cloud computing solutions.

*Experience developing OpenStack environments.

*Experience with DevOps tools and practices, including CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and infrastructure as code.

*Experience of gathering requirements and creating solutions to meet customer and business criteria.

*Experience of working in a scientific environment and/or providing support to researchers.

*Proven ability to manage highly technical, virtual, teams.

*Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

*Knowledge of Linux, Python, Kubernetes, Docker, HPC and GPU-accelerated computing frameworks desirable.
