Centre for English Language Education (CELE)

Since the development of the Nottingham-Ningbo campus in 2004, the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) has aimed to promote high quality EAP teaching in its structure and support of academic programmes delivered in China. 

With over 110 academic staff, the CELE operation at UNNC is now one of the largest of its kind in the world and is currently supporting almost 8000 students on its Preliminary Year, Pre-Sessional and Academic Literacy Development Centre programmes.

Throughout the academic year, the Centre is also actively involved in the delivery of teacher training and the teaching of bespoke courses in various aspects of English for Specific Purposes (ESP).

Preliminary Year Programme

The Preliminary Year Programme is offered to students in their first year of study at UNNC and represents 120 academic credits. The programme is currently a 50-50 split between modules focusing on specific academic subjects and modules focusing on the development of English Language skills. Successful completion of the Preliminary Year is a pre-requisite for progression to the second year of study.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified teaching professionals able to offer experience and expertise in subject area of Physics and/or Chemistry. Ability to teach Mathematics for Engineering would also be an added advantage. Dependent on individual tutors’ aptitude and experience, there is also scope for their involvement in projects such as the design and delivery of summer schools and other bespoke training packages.

Salary will be within the range RMB 380,522 – RMB 407,622 per annum (pro rata for fractional post), depending on skills and qualifications, salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance. An attractive package, including employment support allowance, first arrival allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.

Posts are available from April/May 2022, although later start dates are negotiable, and will initially be offered on fixed-term contracts with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China for a period of three years in the first instance. Contracts may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement, subject to revised terms and conditions. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
