ABOUT THE ROLE


Recently named the UK University of the Year by Times Higher Education, Northumbria University has a treasure trove of stories to tell and successes to share.

We are looking for someone to join our Corporate Communications and Reputation Management team to help to continue to build the University’s reputation, both externally and internally, through integrated PR campaigns and activity. 

You will help us to drive the development of a consistent and impactful narrative around the University’s many stories, making them simple, understandable, and relevant to key audience groups. In addition, you will contribute to communications and PR management in response to issues, incidents, or crisis situations. This includes being part of an on-call rota.

This busy and exciting role involves preparing press releases and statements; drafting project briefs and communication plans; developing content for print and digital channels for a full range of audiences; copywriting; editing; proofing; managing photography and film shoots; and editing photography and film footage. The ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels is vital.

This is a fixed term contract to run until May 2024.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Corporate Communications and Reputation Management team is responsible for the creation and dissemination of the majority of Northumbria's news and communications updates through a variety of responsibilities. This includes liaising with international, national and regional media outlets; generating and developing news stories largely based on academic research; managing internal corporate level communications to students and staff; and managing messaging and communications channels in the event of any incident or crisis.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in the role you will have experience of working in a communications, PR or journalist role, including dealing with the media; experience of developing and delivering complex, multi-channel communications plans; experience of managing internal and external PR around potential issues or crisis situations and have excellent writing skills.
