The Department of Sociology is an internationally renowned centre for teaching and research in Sociology committed to public facing, theoretically strong, empirically orientated research. Our postgraduate degrees see students studying and researching a wide range of sociological topics including: social movements and political economy, health, medicine and the bio-society; digital sociology; the sociology of war, conflict, inequality, race, gender, work, emotions, beauty and the environment.

Using your previous experience in a similar administrative role, you will be the first point of contact for enquiries from prospective and current students and academic colleagues. You will undertake a range of administrative duties, such as: processing applications, administering assessment of students' work, providing committee support, maintaining records and databases, reviewing and updating websites and VLEs and organising events, such as induction and open days.

You will work collaboratively as part of an active network of Postgraduate Administrators across the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences, sharing practice and contributing to improvements to processes and procedures. A range of training and professional development opportunities will be available to you.

Educated to A-level standard (or equivalent) or with equivalent experience, you will join us with good organisational skills and attention to detail. You will also be competent in a range of software packages, such as Word, Excel and Outlook. Within the role, you will be the first point of contact for prospective and current students and academic staff and responsible for responding to email enquiries, therefore effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
