Postdoctoral Scientist

Updated: over 1 year ago
Location: Oxford, ENGLAND
Deadline: 08 Nov 2022

We are pleased to offer an opportunity for an ambitious and committed researcher to work as a senior postdoctoral scientist in a “bench to bedside” research group with a focus on atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
This is a full time appointment on a fixed-term contract for 5 years funded by the British Heart Foundations (BHF) and you will be based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK.

You will take a leading role in an exciting programme of work—spanning from animal models to large-scale multi-omics studies in humans—that investigates the myocardial substrates of AF and their impact on left ventricular dysfunction and cardioembolic stroke, as well as the mechanisms by which common risk factors contribute to the genesis and maintenance of the arrhythmia.

You will report directly to Professor Barbara Casadei and share responsibility for the delivery of the research programme. Whilst experience in in vivo cardiac phenotyping is an essential selection criterion, further training will be available as will be opportunities and support for developing an independent research career. Over the last 10 years, researchers in the group were either finalists or winners in >30 Young Investigator Award competitions at national and international scientific meetings and five obtained personal Research Fellowships or Clinical Lectureships to pursue their independent research career.

You are required to hold a degree or equivalent qualification plus PhD and HO Personal licence (or equivalent) and will be responsible for the group Home Office Licence and for undertaking in vivo and ex vivo cardiac / arrhythmia phenotyping in mice. You will also be responsible for the management of the murine colonies. Previous experience in arrhythmia induction and/or voltage mapping in murine models would be desirable.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online; you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement which explains how you meet the selection criteria for the post.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on the 8th November 2022 can be considered. Interviews are scheduled to place on 22nd November 2022.
