We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to join the Fowler group, led by Oxford-GSK IMCM Fellow Dr. Fowler. The Fowler Lab focuses on molecular neurodegeneration and is committed to providing an inclusive and positive research environment focused on teamwork, creativity, and scientific excellence.
As a Postdoctoral Scientist, you will play a crucial role in unravelling the mysteries of proteopathic tau propagation, particularly the assembly and secretion of tau proteins in cellular models of tauopathy. You will undertake a multidisciplinary approach to discovering and validating spatial interactomes associated with pathological tau species.
Your responsibilities encompass the development of new subcellular fractionation and tau enrichment assays in cellular models of tauopathy and post-mortem human brain tissue samples. Your expertise will be crucial to the multimodal characterization of cellular microdomains associated with pathological tau species mislocalization, and you will be exposed to a variety of exciting techniques including structural mass spectrometry and cryo-electron microscopy and tomography. Your role extends to developing research questions, conducting independent research, and generating original ideas based on existing concepts. Additionally, you will provide clear task objectives, organize team efforts, and coach other team members on specialized methodologies. In a mentoring capacity, you will guide other lab members and graduate students.
It is essential that you hold a PhD/D.Phil. (or close to completion) in Neuroscience, Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics/Genomics or related area. You will have research experience in the field of Neuroscience and in tissue culture (eg. immortalized cell lines and/or iPSC neurons/glia,). You will have experience in general molecular biology techniques (eg. subcellular fractionation, immunoprecipitation, immunoblotting, and microscopy). Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings are highly valued.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 3 years in the first instance and is funded by the IMCM.
Only applications received before 12 midday on Monday 11 March 2023 will be considered. Please quote 171027 on all correspondence.
