The School of Medicine, University of Dundee has a full-time opening for a Postdoctoral Scientist to develop, optimise and validate rapid mass spectrometry-based strategies and techniques for the diagnosis and prognosis of aortopathy. Aortopathy represents a group of disorders characterized by aneurysms and dilation of the aorta. Aortic aneurysm is a silent killer because symptoms are rare, but it can lead to catastrophic rupture or dissection. Aortic dissection and rupture kill more people in the UK than road traffic accidents.

Your priorities will include:

  • Develop novel and rapid workflows for sample processing prior to mass spectrometry analysis;
  • Design and perform biomarker compound synthesis;
  • Carry out LC-MS bioanalysis method development and validation;
  • Identify and characterise novel biomarkers related to aortopathy;
  • Prepare study reports and publication.

Who we’re looking for:

  • PhD degree and postdoctoral experience in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, and related field.
  • LC-MS skill, knowledge, and experience for small or large molecules are required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • The candidate should be a good team player with an ability to coordinate the work of the group as a whole.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
