Postdoctoral Scientist - T cells responses to vaccination

We are seeking a motivated scientist interested in understanding the mechanisms leading to the development of anti-viral T cell immunity in response to vaccination. The successful applicant will join an international and multidisciplinary team, led by Professor Cerundolo, applying different immunological techniques to address fundamental questions on the immune response to cancer, infection and vaccination (

Building on a methodological approach recently described by our group (Napolitani et al. Nature Immunology 2018) you will use next generation techniques, such as Mass Cytometry, TCRseq and single cell RNAseq, to characterize pathogen specific responses elicited in human volunteers challenged with a vaccine against the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). The vaccine was developed and manufactured by the Jenner Institute at the University of Oxford, and is based on a chimpanzee Adenoviral vector expressing the Spike protein of the MERS Coronavirus.
The post holder will analyse samples from this cohort of vaccinated individuals to answer questions associated with the development of long-term memory responses, the phenotypic and functional features of MERS specific T cell, and their cross-reactivity against different coronaviruses.

You will be based at the MRC Human Immunology Unit at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, and will benefit from their world class facilities and dynamic scientific environment. You will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil, together with relevant experience in the T cell immunology.

The post is full-time, although part-time (30 hours per week) may be considered and is fixed-term until 31 August 2020, in the first instance.
