Four Postdoctoral Scientist positions are available to join a Wellcome Trust-funded project in the laboratories of Jason Chin and Julian Sale at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) to create human cells harbouring a synthetic genome; this project builds on the recent landmark creation of E. coli with a recoded, synthetic genome (Fredens et al. Nature 2019).
We are looking for highly motivated individuals holding a PhD in a relevant arear (or who have recently submitted their doctoral thesis), who exhibit a high degree of independence and are able to work collaboratively towards the overall goals of the project. Areas of expertise required for the positions include: genetic manipulation and recombineering of bacteria and microbial hosts, the culture and genetic manipulation of mammalian cells, CRISPR/Cas9 assisted recombination, and computational analysis and prediction from genomic data.
The successful applicants will be awarded a 2 year Career Development Fellowship/ Postdoctoral Training Scheme position. This is a training and development position for a Postdoctoral Scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, is moving into a new research discipline or has limited experience of key transferable skills. The MRC LMB has excellent scientific core facilities and training opportunities.
