An opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the Neurobiology Division at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) to develop cutting-edge computational tools for studying mouse brain neural connectivity. To answer the fundamental questions of how neural circuits are built and control behaviours in the mammalian brain, we have developed the capacity for high-throughput, quantitative imaging of whole-brain structures, especially genetically labelled cell groups and their specific brain-wide projections. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who will dedicate themselves to developing and applying highly advanced computational tools to “big data” analysis of 3D mouse brain images. The goal of the computational pipelines is to reconstruct, register, visualize and quantify the neuronal morphology and anatomical distribution of neural soma and axonal projections, in models of healthy and diseased brain function.

Candidates should have advanced neuro-informatics and computational neuroscience background.

Candidates having experience in machine learning/deep learning, 3D computer vision, 3D biomedical image segmentation, and large-scale biomedical data analysis are highly desired.

Candidates having experience in leading cross-discipline research projects, cooperated with researchers with multidisciplinary and culture background are highly encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant will be awarded a 2-year Career Development Fellowship / Postdoctoral Training Scheme position. This is a training and development position for a Postdoctoral Scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, is moving into a new research discipline or has limited experience of key transferable skills. The MRC LMB has excellent scientific core facilities and training opportunities.
