Applications are invited for an outstanding Postdoctoral Researcher to work on a project investigating the impacts of technology on unpaid household and care work. The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 2 years.
This project will scope the technologies’ potential to free up time now locked into unpaid housework and care work and how willing we are to introduce these technologies into our private lives. The successful candidate will Interview technology experts about the progress of automation of different domestic work tasks; take charge of running an expert forecasting exercise (cf. Delphi method) concerning domestic automation; contribute to developing a vignette survey questionnaire assessing the social acceptability of domestic automation technologies. Other responsibilities of the role include contributing to project administration, publishing research of an internationally excellent standard and working collaboratively as part of a research team.
Applicants should hold a PhD, or be close to completion in sociology, demography, economics, statistics or another relevant discipline and have a strong record in social science statistical research methods. Previous experience of conducting survey research, expert panel forecasting methods and an interest in UK and Japan as research contexts will be an advantage.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate across disciplines and the ability to write effectively for publication. We will expect candidates to have demonstrable commitment to their own professional development.
