Postdoctoral Researcher

Updated: about 3 hours ago
Location: Oxford, ENGLAND
Deadline: 30 Apr 2020

We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join Professor Kristijan Ramadan's research team, which focuses on understanding the basic molecular mechanisms of the DNA damage response after ionising radiation or chemotherapy.

You will be responsible for carrying out research on how cancer cells survive radio- and/or chemotherapy with the specific focus on the DNA double strand breaks, DNA replication and DNA-protein crosslinks (Vaz et al. Mol. Cell, 2016; Halder et al. Nature Commun., 2019; Singh et al. EMBO J, 2019; Fielden et al. Nature Commun., 2020). This will involve the adaptation of existing (specifically laser micro-irradiation and DNA combing), and development of new (CRISPR/Cas9 screen and super-resolution microscopy) scientific techniques and the writing of experimental protocols.

You will test hypotheses and analyse scientific data and will contribute ideas for new research projects related to DNA damage response and cancer. The final project will be customised according to the candidate's scientific background, motivation and ambitious.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to apply for the fellowships such as the EMBO long term fellowship, Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellowship or various project grants. Depending on the candidate's or research group's scientific success, there is a possibility to extend this post after 31 March 2022.

You will have (or be near to completion) a relevant PhD in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, oncology or biomedicine. Strong specialist knowledge in biochemistry with the focus on plasmid cloning and protein purification or in molecular biology with the focus on microscopy and CRISPR/Cas9 technology is mandatory. Knowledge of cancer biology related to DNA damage response is recommended.

This is a full-time post offered until 31 March 2022.

All applicants must complete a short application form, upload a CV and supporting statement.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 30 April 2020.
