Updated: 19 days ago
Location: Oxford, ENGLAND
Deadline: 12 Apr 2024

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to research led by Professor Katherine Vallis. The central objective of this project is to develop anticancer molecularly targeted radiotherapy agents (theranostics) for the imaging and treatment of cancer.  The focus of the project will be on specific organelle targeting with an emphasis on the nucleolus which is the major site of ribosome synthesis and is also implicated in the DNA damage and other stress responses.

The post will be based at the Old Road Campus Research Building, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7DQ, and is offered on a full-time basis, fixed-term until 31st October 2024.

About you

You will manage your own academic research to drive all aspects of the project forward, including cancer biology and radiobiology aspects. This involves project management to co-ordinate your research to meet deadlines as well as test hypotheses and analyse data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate.

You will hold (or be close to completion of) a relevant PhD/DPhil (i.e. cell or molecular biology, radiation medicine science, imaging etc) together with relevant experience.  You will have strong cell/molecular biology laboratory research skills and possess sufficient specialist knowledge of cancer biology and radiation medicine sciences to be able work collaboratively with other scientists in related research programmes.

A good publication record at the level of first author publication in peer-reviewed journal(s) is an essential requirement.  Experience of in vivo research and of the use of external radiation sources and/or radioisotopes would be advantageous.
