FIMM is currently seeking outstanding candidates for the position of
Postdoctoral Researcher in the Epigenetics of Complex Diseases and Traits group
Description: Epigenetics of Complex Diseases & Traits research group led by Miina Ollikainen is focused on understanding epigenetic variation and its relation to complex traits and diseases, such as smoking, alcohol use, obesity, and metabolic syndrome. Our research applies computational approaches utilizing genome-wide DNA methylation, histone modification and genotype data, and wealth of phenotypic data from well-characterized Finnish Twin Cohort Study participants. Our aim is at understanding biological mechanisms linking environmental exposures and complex phenotypes, producing reliable biomarker signatures and potential intervention targets as well as identification of epigenetic variants which could be used in risk prediction.
We are currently seeking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher, with stron computational and analytical skills to develop and apply computational approached to analyze, model and integrate omics data sets to assess the contribution of genome and epigenome to complex traits. The postdoc will be jointly responsible of coordinating the projects and supervising the PhD students, and will participate in national and international collaborations.
Required qualifications and experience:
- a PhD in (epi)genetics, statistical genetics, bioinformatics, (epi)genetic epidemiology, or similar
- excellent computational and programming skills, especially in R
- experience with computational (epi)genetics or epidemiological studies
- experience with analysis of large omics data sets
- solid publication track record fluency in English and excellent scientific writing skills
- experience in supervising and teaching
Salary & contract: A one year contract is available for full time position, starting as soon as possible, with a possibility for extension pending successful review. The salary will be commensurate with qualifications based on the Finnish university salary (YPJ) system depending on the credentials, previous experience and performance of the postdoctoral researcher.
How to apply: Application deadline is 31.12.2022 at 16.00 EET. Applications should include a CV and a cover letter and are submitted as a single PDF file (max 3 pages) in English by using the University of Helsinki recruitment system via the Apply link.
