Offer Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

A 4 ½ years (54 months) postdoctoral research position in ice-sheet modelling and climate interactions is available at Northumbria University. The position is a part of the project PRECISE: Prediction of Climate Change and Effect of Mitigating Solutions, funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundations. This is an international collaboration project involving several partners including the Niels Bohr Institute as a lead partner.

You will be conducting numerical ice-flow simulations of the future of the Greenland Ice Sheet in a warming world. Using numerical and analytical methods you will assess the existence of tipping point behaviour within the combined ice dynamical and atmospheric climate components.  You will be working in an active and large research group at Northumbria University focusing on the Future of Ice on Earth . As a part of this large international collaboration project, you will be involved in scientific project meetings and will be able to attend conferences and international workshops. Experience in ice-flow modelling is of advantage, but not essential. We are looking for highly motivated candidates interested in tackling important key questions related to climate change and the future of ice on Earth. You should have a background in physics and mathematics, ability to learn and understand concepts related to non-linear behaviour of dynamical systems and be able to work with large data sets and numerical software. While you will be able to run an existing ice-dynamical model, we encourage you to explore new ideas and work towards improving the physical description of relevant processes within our existing model configurations.

Further information about the requirements of the role is available in the person specification
