Postdoctoral Researcher in Genomics

Updated: 3 months ago
Location: Oxford, ENGLAND
Deadline: 29 Jan 2024

We are seeking a computational-statistical postdoctoral researcher to join our lab at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford. Our lab focuses on developing statistical methods and computational software to gain a better understanding of the genetic contribution to immune-mediated traits.

Possible projects include, but are not limited to, investigating the association between the microbiome and the human genome in the context of autoimmune diseases such as Type 1 Diabetes and Inflammatory Bowel Disease, identifying genetic determinants of T-cell receptor repertoires using 5' single-cell sequencing data, and identifying links between genetic variants and human transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic data by leveraging large multi-omic datasets.

You will be responsible for identifying, defining, and planning new projects that contribute to the overall objectives of studies and clinical trials. You will conduct detailed analysis of multi-omics datasets and develop innovative methodologies for analysis and data collection in collaboration with members of other research teams. You will also identify and resolve technical or scientific issues by collaborating with database experts and scientific programmers.

For this role you must hold a PhD (or near completion) in statistical genetics, functional genomics, computational biology, or a related field. You must be able to demonstrate experience, ability, and practical success in biostatistics, bioinformatics, or machine learning. It is essential that you possess strong quantitative skills, including proficiency in at least one programming language, and have experience analysing large-scale genomic datasets. You will need to have extensive research experience and a notable publication record, as well as familiarity with existing literature in the field.

Experience contributing to grant protocols and a working knowledge of immunology is preferred but not essential. It would also be desirable that you have a strong track record of supervising others, including junior staff and PhD students.

This is a fixed-term, full time position for 3 years starting in July 2024.

Due to the nature of the research at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, this job will require additional security pre-employment checks:

•    A satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service check

The closing date for this position is 12 noon on Monday 29th January 2023. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
