The successful candidate will contribute to the development and support of the existing cathodoluminescence facility, specialising in variable temperature and picosecond time-resolved cathodoluminescence (TRCL) imaging and spectroscopy.
Additionally, the candidate will engage in cutting-edge research on the application of cathodoluminescence techniques to light-emitting semiconductors, with opportunities to work on solar cell materials and materials for wide bandgap electronic devices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and develop the existing TRCL facility, including variable temperature CL with liquid helium cooling and picosecond time resolution imaging and spectroscopy
- Train users from within and outside the University of Cambridge on the TRCL facility.
- Collaborate with materials growth and device fabrication specialists to optimise materials from cathodoluminescence data
- Engage in correlative microscopy studies, applying complementary techniques to nanoscale objects characterised by CL
- Present research findings at lab meetings, seminars, and international scientific conferences
- Draft scientific manuscripts with support from Prof. Oliver and contribute to the supervision of Masters or PhD students.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or near completion).
- Essential: experience with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), experience of spectroscopy.
- Desirable: Experience in cathodoluminescence, experience of time-resolved spectroscopy, knowledge of Python coding for data analysis, experience of relevant materials and complementary characterisation techniques (see Further Particulars).
- Strong skills in data presentation, both verbally and in writing.
