Full-time, Fixed-term until 31 May 2025
We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Professor Dame Molly Stevens’s lab at the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery. The Stevens Group is based at the Department of Physiology Anatomy and Genetics and is also part of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering. The post-holder will develop next-generation multiplexed sensing platforms as an effective route to establishing personalised, user-centered diagnostics. The post will liaise closely with researchers working on nanotechnology, biosensing, optics, and machine learning to develop an advanced point-of-care diagnostic platform with a strong translational emphasis. This post will develop nanostructured biosensing surfaces, investigate their recognition and binding capacities, and evaluate them for use in SERS based biosensing applications. This multi-disciplinary research requires knowledge of surface chemistry and characterisation, materials chemistry and Raman spectroscopy. The post-holder will be active within a vibrant and multidisciplinary environment comprising multiple research strands in fundamental and applied bionanoscience.
Based at Professor Dame Molly Stevens’ group, the post will involve collaborations with other internationally recognised biomaterials and nanomaterials research groups. The Stevens Group has received numerous awards for outstanding biomaterials related research (www.stevensgroup.org) and comprises a diverse and multidisciplinary group of postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate students. We are looking for a talented scientist who is a confident self-starter and a collaborative team member with impeccable work ethics.
In addition to having, or nearing completion of, a PhD degree in a relevant subject, candidates should have research experience in surface chemistry design for biosensing and disease diagnostic applications, Raman spectroscopy (in particular SERS-based biosensing), and nanomaterial and chemical-based surface characterization techniques. The candidate should also be able to manage their own research and administrative activities. Previous experience would be demonstrated by a proven track record of first author publications in peer reviewed journals. Experience in clinical translational science, entrepreneurial activities or intellectual property is desirable.
This is a full-time position, initially fixed-term for 12 months in the first instance.
The post will be based the Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics, Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, located at the Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Building, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QU.
To apply for this position, please submit your application by midday on Monday 26th February. Your application should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae (CV), and contact information for references.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews, which are likely to be held three weeks after the closing date.
Enquiries can be directed to the DPAG HR Team – [email protected].
Applications are particularly welcome from women, black and minority ethnic candidates who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
While this is a full-time role, we welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
We, as a Department and Community, will be considerate and welcoming of all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity. We acknowledge societal inequalities and how these impact us, and those around us, personally and professionally. – DPAG Statement of Inclusion
