Postdoctoral Research Scientist

The postdoctoral research scientist will be a member of the Cardiac Neurobiology Research Group within DPAG, who work together to better understand the area of neural control of cardiac excitability. The post holder will be responsible for carrying out research for funded by the BHF to investigate the cardiac-neural co-culture model development to study mechanism of arrhythmia in human channelopathies and will report to Professor David Paterson.

The post holder will: manage their own academic research and administrative activities; adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols; test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate; contribute ideas for new research projects; develop ideas for generating research income, and present detailed research proposals to senior researchers; collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters; use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment; act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental techniques; represent the research group at external meetings/seminars; and carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups.

The successful applicant will hold, or be near completion of a relevant PhD/DPhil, and have experience in iPSC generation, culture and differentiation, genome editing, electrophysiological and tissue engineering methodologies. The post holder will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes and have the ability to manage own academic research and associated activities. Previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations is a must, along with excellent communication skills, and commitment to engaging with, and promoting awareness of, equality, diversity and inclusion, embedding these into their work.

This post is offered on a full time basis, and is fixed-term until 31/12/2025.
