The post

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to lead a programme of bioinformatic analyses of high-resolution imaging and transcriptomic data as part of ongoing work to explore disease pathology in Type 1 diabetes. This prestigious Steve Morgan Foundation Grand Challenge full-time funded post is available from 1st March 2024 for 4 years in the group of Professor Sarah Richardson.

Specifically, are looking for an experienced bioinformatician with experience of biological systems who is excited about the opportunity to establish pipelines to leverage new knowledge from data generated from state-of-the-art imaging platform analysis of rare pancreas bioresources.  

The successful applicant will join the Islet Biology Exeter (IBEx) Group in the Exeter Centre of Excellence for Diabetes Research (EXCEED) within the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Exeter. This role will be based at the RILD (Research Innovation Learning and Development) building situated on the Royal Devon and Exeter (RD&E) Hospital site. The successful candidate will work as part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team including molecular and cellular biologists, imaging specialists, and mathematicians and bioinformaticians researching different forms of diabetes.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in mathematical, computational, or systems biology, or in bioinformatics. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and lead projects as required.
