This new full time post is available from 1 March 2024 on a fixed term basis until 30 September 2024. This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

Summary of the role

The Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy (ESE) wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in supporting the work of Dr Jamie Walker. Working within a multidisciplinary team of mathematicians and neuroendocrinologists, the successful applicant will investigate the dynamic activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, and how this changes under different conditions of stress.

This Medical Research Council (MRC) funded post is available from 01 March 2024 - 30 September 2024.

The successful applicant will work with experimental imaging data and develop and analyse mathematical models describing the activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA axis).

About you

The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in mathematical neuroendocrinology and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to work with fluorescent imaging data as well as develop dynamical system models of intracellular signalling pathways and analyse those models to characterise system behaviour.
