This new full time post is available from 1st September 2022 on a fixed term basis, initially for two years. This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home, and with industry secondments.

Summary of the role


We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher, based at the University of Exeter, as part of the Vibration Engineering Section, to carry out research on full-scale monitoring of civil infrastructure as part of the UKRI-funded ROSEHIPS program grant (EP/W005816/1).


The researcher will work in a sub-team of researchers at University of Exeter (James Brownjohn, Ki Koo and Evangelos Papatheou) and linking with Queen’s University, Belfast (David Hester) focused on practical aspects of population-based structural health monitoring, including instrumentation, field measurement and modal testing. The researcher will need to be able quickly to learn new systems, be able to drive all aspects of fieldwork and carry out hands-on experimental ativities in outdoor field conditions.


There will be a strong element of working with the infrastructure operators who are project industrial partners, both to elucidate their needs for structural health monitoring and to get them to use the system or ‘framework’ created by the project. As such there will be industry secondments as well as a program of activities connecting a wider group of researchers.
