This part time (up to 0.75FTE) NIHR SPCR funded post, is available from 1st February 2023 to 31st July 2024.

This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

The post

You will participate in the “Early cancer diagnosis and community pharmacies in deprived areas” project: an 18-month NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR) funded project conducting a systematic review and an online survey study to understand approaches for early cancer diagnosis in community pharmacies and the usual practice of community pharmacists when patients seek to purchase over-the-counter medication that could potentially be a treatment for symptoms of cancer The successful applicant will lead the systematic review and the survey study while developing further research proposals.  

The post will include project management of both the systematic review and the survey study. Duties will include designing the online search strategies, searching grey literature, screening titles and abstracts, reviewing full texts, and extracting and synthesising data. The post will also include designing the survey, recruiting participants, analysing data and writing up results. The post will be supported throughout by, and include close cooperation with, other members of the research team from the University of Exeter. 

About you

You will:

  • be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals
  • be able to identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events
  • possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study
  • possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies
  • be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required
  • be able to manage and conduct research projects independently
