This full time, Royal Society funded post is available from March 2022 on a fixed-term basis for approximately 23 months.

This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

The post

You will participate in the research efforts of the theory group of Dr. Charles Downing. The group works on topics across condensed matter physics, nanophotonics, plasmonics and quantum optics. It sits within the wider Quantum Systems and Nanomaterials Group, in the Physics and Astronomy Department of the University of Exeter.

You will work on current problems in theoretical quantum nanophotonics, in particular involving the concepts of quantum topology, parity-time symmetry and chirality. The post will include both analytic and numeric theoretical work.

About you

You will:

  • be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events
  • possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study
  • be a nationally recognised authority in physics and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies
  • be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required
